San Antonio’s Sex Mex dropped a killer new album in early July titled “21:12” and I can not stop listening to it. The sound is reminiscent of Black Lips/Jay Reatard garage punk; stripped down and lo-fi production with ferocious and unrelenting guitars and manic vocals. Sex Mex is an amazing one-person band which see’s Clark Gary recording bass, guitars, drums and keys himself. Clark has tried bands but in the end, they never seem to work out. The current set up gives Clark total control over his creative process and sound. No compromises or differing opinions, Sex Mex is his own. The live performance is just as wild as the recordings. They’re raw and full of energy with Clark on drums and vocals over his pre-recorded material. I can not wait to check this out live when Sex Mex comes through Reno in November.
