I woke up at 4:30AM on July 5th to meet Robin and Sam of Honey Plant at a tunnel near San Rafael Park in Reno, NV. We trekked for about 10 or so minutes to the tunnel and set up. I knew we weren’t going to be able to plug in any instruments to recreate the sound I’m familiar with and that got me wondering what they were going to sound like acoustic. Robin brought out his guitar, recently passed down to him from his father a few months prior. I could tell how meaningful it was for him to be playing it this morning for our video session.
When You’re Far Away is one of my favorite songs from Honey Plant’s incredible debut LP, “Know Less, Feel More”. Getting the opportunity to hear them perform it in this tunnel unplugged was something special. These video projects have been a joy to film and edit because I’m getting to see and hear some of my favorite local bands performing in ways I don’t think many people have experienced before.
I had some assistance for this shoot from videographer Arvin Corpus who handled the wide shots.
