[Local] Anabelle and the desert Scrubs – Strawberry Girl

A few days back, I posted on Instagram a list of albums and EPs released by Reno musicians in 2026. Looking at it from a macroscopic lens, I was very impressed by how much new music had been released only four months into 2026 This list only looked at LP and EPs. It didn’t factor in the numbers of singles released which has been massive so far. Lists being as they are, I was concerned I would be missing some releases (I did not want to offend anyone) but part of that posting was also to see what other releases were out that I was not aware of. I got a DM a few hours later.

Anabelle and the Deserts Scrubs are a band out of Fallon which is about an hour East of Reno. What started out as a solo project from Anabelle at the age of 12, has now turned into a fully formed indie rock trio who have been quite active in to the Reno and surrounding area local music scenes. The band will be releasing their debut LP titled The Belle Empire on May 8th and currently have two singles which can be found here.

While both tracks are fantastic listens, Strawberry Girl grabbed my attention fairly quickly. I enjoyed the catchy melodies and Anabelle’s vocals, with her folk influence peppered throughout the duration of the song. The more recent release Whispers leans heavily into the band’s high energy indie sound and is a good contrast to Strawberry Girl. It’ll be interesting to see where the bands goes with their upcoming LP release and I am very much looking forward to listening to the album.

The have several shows lined up throughout April, with a show scheduled this Sunday the 19th at Black Rabbit Mead playing alongside Reno’s The Zines, Skoe and Showerhead.

The album release party is scheduled May 9th as a secret location. Check the flier here
