When I posted about Kelley Stoltz a month or so ago, not only was I excited to hear a new track from the San Francisco legend but I learned about a new label out of Oakland named Dandy Boy Records. While the label itself isn’t new (they’ve been releasing bangers for about a decade now), the mid-2010’s is when I took a step back from music discovery and listened to what I had already found and loved. Now that I’ve gotten back into the groove of finding new music and showcasing the Reno music scene, I figured I would make this label a prime focus in searching out Bay Area bands and artists.
Just this year alone, the label has seen releases from The Goods, Softjaw and the aforementioned Kelley Stoltz. One of their newer releases comes from San Francisco’s Yea-Ming and the Rumours. It’s a sound I’m fairly familiar with yet the musical style and lyrics Yea-Ming present are a lot more matured and poignant from the 2010’s SF freak folk movement. The new LP titled Residue is the fourth from the band but according to the album’s presser, this album is the coming together of Yea-Ming’s vision and brilliance. Paper Doll is the lead track and it’s absolutely wonderful to listen to.

Correction 4/14/2026 – 05:02pm: It was noted above that the label has been around for 10 years. This is incorrect as the label has been officially releasing music as Dandy Boy Records for five years with the releases of Smile Too Much, CVCC and Bodyswitch on tape.
