One of my favorite labels for well over a decade, Sacred Bones is on a rip right now with releases. In addition to the new Ora Cogan record I covered last month, I went through their recent discography and found this gem of a track. Rare is a single of the new album titled Marathon from Oakland’s Maria BC. Her sound can best be described as experimental folk and it is excellent. The record starts off hard and heavy with fuzz and distortion but then eases into beautifully arranged acoustic tracks with strong, powerful lyrics, subtle drumming and low key piano and synths. It’s an amazing album and I’ve been listening to it nonstop.
