[Reno] Etiquette – Scratching At The Walls

I knew Etiquette were an incredible band when I first wrote about them back in January. The EP “What A Day!” is such an amazing collection of songs and I will always recommend it as a must listen when talking about Reno music. They were one of first Reno bands I saw live when I first started Spirits Rebellious. I was blown away by their performance at The Holland Project in February and even when they’ve had to perform as a two-piece jazz rendition, they still sound amazing as ever. But since that time, two new singles have released and the band just get better and better with each new release.

Scratching at the Walls is probably one of my favorite songs from the band. It’s absolutely brilliant and well written. The fervent lyrics from Jacob Darby strike a cord and touch on something from deep within. I can feel the frustration in his vocal delivery, particularly with the lines, “Bet the doc said to pray / Did the priest take a drink / Man it’s so f****** played out / So f****** played out” leading into the last frenetic chorus of the track. We’re then hit with a near sixty seconds of incredible jamming where each member of the band plays their hearts out, letting loose to create this lush, sonic soundscape before the song comes to a close.

Etiquette are set to play live August 26th at The Holland Project in support of Washington’s Skin Slicing Horse along with locals Rat Patrol. Tickets can be found here
