As a follow up to the Deceits post yesterday, I wanted to feature another artist that dwells in the realms of post-punk darkwave. Coming from Phoenix, AZ, Alex Okami has been on my radar this past month after the release of his latest single, Permanent Disease. Okami embraces the dark minimalist electronic sounds of his contemporaries and his execution is top notch. However, Okami’s lyrical songwriting is second to none and is what grabbed my attention. The imagery he describes in his new track is mind bending and surreal, “I’m in search for the truth / All throughout the obscene / I’ve been wandering halls / That keep leading to dreams”. He draws from internal pain, fighting an internal struggle, hoping what he is feeling on the inside isn’t some permanent disease.
