I was late to the party with Fujisawa’s Maya Ongsku, but once I learned about them this January, I was instantly hooked on their psychedelic sound. The band have two albums to their name so far; 2023’s excellent “Approach To Anima” and 2024’s experimental-synth masterpiece “Electronic Phantoms” (if you own the vinyl, then you’ll know that playing side B at 33 or 45 rpm will give you a different listening experience), which was followed up in late 2025 with the 7′ single Maybe Psychic.
Having their music released on Japanese via Amsterdam label Guruguru Brain fills the hole left when Kikagaku Moyo went on indefinite hiatus. However, the band also follow in the tradition of excellent Japanese psychedelic bands released by the label like Sundays & Cybele and Minami Deutsch. Yesterday saw the release of a brand new single titled Astral Echoes which will feature on an upcoming LP titled “Nothing Space Music”. The track is a return to their 60’s drenched psychedelia in the style resembling their first record, albeit a little more somber and softer.
Nothing Space Music drops August 7th digitally with the vinyl shipping out early September. Pre-order here
