[Reno] Suhns – Sugarcoat (Live At Astro Sound Labs)

I’ve been sitting on a Suhns post for a few weeks now. Not because of writer’s block but because the band have so many good tracks out, I was finding it hard to pick which one to feature. Since I’m playing catch up with Reno’s music scene I’ve usually defaulted to the most recent track a band has out. Going through Suhns Youtube and Spotify I really could not make up my mind which one to post. I adore their alternative-pop leaning track 50s but then there is Cynical or Awol or Wintergreen. However, one track I kept coming back to was Sugarcoat.

The track starts off light with regards to instrumentation but with heavy and deep, hard hitting lyrics. The track slowly builds until it peaks with it’s crescendo before tapering off into silence while we catch out breath from the rollercoaster of emotions we just experienced. It’s a fantastic, well written song and when I saw the band was going to release an in-studio recording I figure I would wait for the video to drop this past Friday.

Suhns will be performing like at Black Rabbit Mead Company March 22nd with Black Pontiac and Sunfish. Tickets can be found here. The band will also be playing Greenhouse April 17th along with Long Jump and Midcourse Correction.
